Figured bass - help needed with vertical alignment
This Musescore file was created and forwarded to me by a friend, and I'm adding the figures from the original facsimile. However I don't understand how to set the vertical position of the figures so that they are consistent. I had to correct the first bar manually, otherwise it comes out like bar 5. In bar 2 the single figures are on three different levels, yet in bar 4 they are correct. I believe I am following the Handbook instructions, and have tried playing with the style settings, but without making any difference. What am I missing? Thanks.

Right click->Select all similar, via Inspector disable automatic placement (if that's what you want to achieve).

Well, it's the only intuitive way I can think of to achieve the specific goal of "selecting all figured bass elements and then disabling autoplace for them". The only question is, why should one want to disable automate for all figured bass if the goal is to align them better. Normally, disabling autoplace would have the opposite effect. Ther only reason it appears to help in this specific case is because of a bug involving figured bass symbols that begin with an accidental - see #312291: [Automatic Placement] Unnecessary colission avoidance in figured bass. The collision avoidance algorithm detects a collision where it shouldn't, so that's why disabling it solves the problem.
In this case, still, better not to disable autoplace across the board, but only for the specific symbols affected.

I didn't spot that the problem only occurred with symbols with accidentals, and that this was a bug (known for nearly a year), so to me disabling autoplace to achieve the correct alignment was not intuitive!! In this particular movement over a third of the symbols are affected; it's much quicker to disable autoplace across the board and the end result comes out correctly, though I accept that may not always be the case..
