Re-collapse expanded "Palettes" list?

• Nov 9, 2021 - 07:28

(MS v3.6) Hi guys – I pressed something tonight that caused every palette in the "Palettes" list to open. I couldn't find anything in the Handbook about expanding or collapsing palettes. I've looked through all the menus, right-clicked everything I could think of, and just spent 10 minutes looking around online for clues—nada. What am I overlooking? Thanks!

[EDIT:] I've found you can collapse it by exiting and restarting MS, at least. :?)

I think you probably pressed "*" while keyboard focus was in the palettes window. That's the shortcut to open or close all palettes. If it happens again, simply pressing it again closes them all. And of course, you can use it at any time open or close all palettes as desired. As mentioned, the "single palette" mode is useful as well.

FWIW, I do wish the "" command worked to always *close all palettes by default if some are open but others are closed. Closing all palettes is something I want to do often; opening them all pretty rare. Right now then it usually takes two presses of "*" to close them all - one to force them all open, another to close them all.

cadiz1: In my MS, I don't have the "menu" dots you clicked to show that option (see screenshot). How do you show them?
And how did you put your Palettes and Inspector windows on adjacent tabs like that? I tried dragging the Inspector over to the Palettes, but it just put one below the other, not on tabs.

It works!

That's what it does for me—opens them all, then closes them all, regardless of whether any were open first. It doesn't do that for you?
