Down Prall Ornament?

• Jan 2, 2022 - 01:55

I am notating Canon at the Octave from J.S. Bach's The Art of Fugue. I am running version 3.6.2. I cannot seem to find the down prall ornament in the palette. This ornament is first used in Voice 1, m. 13, and in Voice 2, m. 17 (see attached score). I do see the up prall ornament, however. In the inspector, there is an option for Direction. I originally thought that if I selected the up prall ornament and changed the Direction option from "Auto" to "Down", that it would change the up prall ornament to the down prall ornament... but it didn't. I'm sure that I'm missing something, so anyone could let me know what it is, I would appreciate it!

You don't say which edition you are working from, so we don't which which editor added the marking you refer to or what it should look like (each editor generally adds their own markings according to their own personal tastes). I'm guessing you want a symbol that resembles the one you are using but has the initial curve above the wavy line rather than below and without the mordent stroke, or some variation that isn't already present on the palette because it isn't part of the SMuFL standard. These types of custom symbols can be assembled from the items in the Symbols palette (press "Z" to display), see for instance the "Multi-segment lines" section.
