inputting a shortened diminuendo into multiple parts simultaneously
I want to input a shortened diminuendo hairpin on the third beat of a 4/4 bar in multiple parts of a score, each part containing a semibreve/whole note. I know how to do it individually (select semibreve note, input diminuendo hairpin and then shorten hairpin from the left going to the right) but is it possible to do it simultaneously to all three parts somehow, given that they all contain semibreves?
Comments
If the point of shortening is to tell the performer the diminuendo is only, say, two or three beats, a better way to do this is use invisible rests in voice 2 to attach to. Then it's sized correctly even after the measure changes, and is more easily copyable, and works for playback, etc.
If it's something else, then if you attach your score and explain in more detail what you are trying to do, we can understand and advise better.

If you want a player to know exactly where to start or stop the diminuendo, then you need to represent the duration with tied notes so that the endpoints of the hairpin can be associated with a specific note. For example, if you want the dim to be on beats 3 and 4 if a semibreve, you need to have two tied minims with the dim covering the last one only. If you are not too bothered where it starts or stops you can just move the end points of the hairpin by tweaking the drag handles.
[Edit] Or for the non-specific case, attach the hairpin endpoints to invisible rests in voice 2 as Marc suggests, But if you are going to all the trouble to make a short hairpin, it is surely better to give the player the best chance of playing what you hope for.

Thanks and sorry for the delay in replying. Regarding attaching the hairpin/diminuendo to invisible rests, does this mean that I can select a range (eg 1 measure in all parts), and input the dim on eg beat 3 of all selected staves in that measure, as long as the dim can 'attach' to either visible beats or invisible rests?

Yes, if I'm understanding the question correctly. If you have difficulty, please attach your score and explain how you tried doing this and what went wrong when you tried, but it should work,
