Bend down
Using the bend articulation, it would be nice to be able to go below the starting note. There are work-arounds, but this would be a nice addition.

I assume you are referring to the guitar-specific bend symbol intended for use in tablature? It goes up only because actual guitars go up only :-). The more general bends symbols are the ones in the Arpeggios & Glissandi palette. These, however, don't play back currently - hopefully someday, and then, indeed, up as well as down would be supported.

Arpeggios and glissandi do play back, and glissandos in portamento style even 'stepless', like a bend, up and down. Fall, doit, plop, scoop etc. don't play back though

Right, thanks for the clarification. It's the latter I was referring to. But as a workaround, I often add the fall symbol but also add a hidden portamento-style glissando to a grace note to get the playback.
