migrate custom palettes, workspaces, toolbars, etc. to new computer

• Aug 19, 2022 - 15:16

Hello everyone. I just bought a new Mac, installed MuseScore, copied the Preferences files over, and pointed the new Mac's Musescore's Styles and other folders to the correct location in a shared dropbox folder. So shortcuts, etc., are all set.

But I can't figure out how to get the new Mac's Musescore to see my custom palette, which is also in that shared folder. How do I do that, and how do I get my workspaces copied over?

It'd be lovely if there were a one- or two-click way to do all this easily. But if there isn't, how do I get the remaining stuff to be the same on both Macs?

Thanks,

Edly

Hello, nice to see you! Since you already found the preferences file, the hard part I think is done. Now, you just need to find the "workspaces" folder and move that too. Unfortunately I don't know enough about macOS to say exactly where it is. On my Linux system, it's ~/.local/share/MuseScore/MuseScore3/workspaces

Hurro, Marc. Good to see you too. I did a system-wide search for "workspaces" and got the following, but no folders:
• MuseScore Shortcuts list.pdf
• Edly's MuseScore Key Commands.xml
My shortcuts 2.xml
My shortcuts.xml

So no luck so far. And what about my painstakingly-created palette?

Well, like your preferences file, it wouldn't be in a place normally searched, you'd need to enable options to do the full drive, including hidden and system folders, etc. It should be the same folder where you autosave files go, so try ~/Library/Application Support/MuseScore/MuseScore3/ (where "~" is your home folder).

The workspace files include everything relating to toolbars and palettes, so once you find them, you're in. But FWIW, you can also save palettes individually to any folder you like, using the "..." menu on the palette name. And then you can load them on another system the same way. But that's one palette at a time, and won't help with toolbar or other customizations made via the workspace facility. So hopefully you're able to to find the worspaces folder and get it all done at once.
