Steps to produce the issue:
1.) Enter note input mode.
2.) Enter a note.
3.) Try to change the note duration using the "Q" (shorter), "W" (longer), or "." (dotted) keys.

4.) Repeat this process on 3.6 and 4.0-development version to see and feel the difference.

Expected behavior:
The duration of the note you entered should change accordingly. (3.6 behavior)

Current behavior:
The duration of the last entered note does not change.

I see the behavior in 3.6 and earlier to be more flexible. If the behavior won't be fixed entirely, I would at least hope to see a preference setting to re-enable this feature.

In MuseScore 4, the behavior of Q & W was changed to work more like other duration keys - setting the duration for the next note. This was a deliberate design feature apparently perceived to be beneficial for guitar (tablature).

Dot has always worked like this - it's never added a dot to an existing note in note input mode. It always works like other durations keys.

Shift+Q/W continue to work as before, changing duration of existing notes.

Ah, thanks Marc; the dotted duration in fact did work like this before. It used to feel sort of inconsistent with the Q and W keys which affected the current note. The new behavior is more consistent in that regard so that's a plus - even though I really dislike it. ;) So in a functional sense, I considered this solved.
