transposition question
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to Musescore, and I must say that I am thrilled with it. I followed just one introductory lesson on youtube. With looking up some hints in the forum I was able to finish my first project after one day. I was so happy that I immediately signed up for a pro-subscription. Thank you for a wonderful piece of software.
I just encountered one thing that puzzles me. Comparing the notes of an instrument in the original score and a derived part some of them are transposed by one octave.
This happens to the part notes when I transpose them in the score - or vice versa. What's the reason for that?

If I understand your question, Tenor Sax is written 1 octave higher than it sounds. So if you are transposing from an instrument that does not do that, there will be a difference.
Welcome; it's always nice to hear someone being thrilled about the project!
Just be aware that your Pro subscription has zero effect on the features available in the notation software or the free support from your fellow users and contributors here on these forums. The subscription model only pertains to the commercial score sharing sister website musescore.com (see also https://musescore.org/en/faq#faq-20657)
For this forum and issues, it is pretty much always preferred to attach the score you're seeing this in as an attachment (the actual mscz file). That way we can inspect it and follow your steps to see if we notice the same issues and/or how to work around them.
Please also elaborate on how you are transposing the notes by giving us steps to reproduce the buggy behavior.

I've attached an extract of the score that should show the problem.
Here's what I did as far as I can remember:
1) I've added notes to instrument staves in the score
2) I've created parts for the staves
3) I have transposed the notes for the tuning of the instruments in the score (Edit Staff/Part Porperties): 2 semitones up for Bb and 3 semitones down for Eb
4) I've checked the according parts and I have noticed some octavated notes
5) In the Part: Edit Staff/Part Properties; transpose up 1 halftone - Apply - transpose down 1 halftone - OK. This fixed all the octavated notes in the part! But then some notes in the Score were octavated. The result is seen in the attached mscz file.

There is a known bug where changing transposition after generating parts can cause problems like this. Better to wait until you've got things set up more fully before generating the parts.

You might not be aware yet, but for most instruments you don't have to configure the transposition settings yourself as MuseScore already knows them. Just make sure to select/add the correct instruments to your score when creating it.
You may then use the "Concert Pitch" button in the top toolbar to switch between the transposed written pitch for the players and the concert auditive real pitch for composing.

You're right, I wasn't aware of that feature. I just tired it, and it's indeed very useful. Maybe with that concert pitch button I can work around the issue I encountered.
