Uninstalled Musescore 4. Tried to install Muscscore 3 and musescore.org wouldn't let me.
Musescore 4 doesn't match the documentation making it unusable in it's current state.
Moving on to supported software...

The MS4 documentation for this seems to perfectly match with my install though: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/working-instruments#add-linked-staff

It worked. I was trying to link two existing staffs. Oops!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am now successfully transcribing :-).

To be clear: if you access the Handbook from directly within MuseScore (Help / Online handbook), it takes you to the MuseScore 4 version. The menu at the top of this page here, though, still takes you to the old one. I think it's planned to switch this over in the next week or so. Meanwhile, right at the top of the MuseScore 3 version is a link to the MsueScore 4 version. So both remain totally accessible.

Marc, since I figured out how to link a tablature staff to my G staff, everything has been running smoothly. The online manual has been indispensable in learning new features. MuseScore 4 is intuitive to use and I've been able to arrange 10 piano pieces for the ukulele in my first week of use. I'm loving this program!!!
Thanks for the reply :-).
