Parts in MuseScore

• Jan 2, 2023 - 09:40

There is a menu item to duplicate a par. Yeah! That is what I was looking for. I am missing the possibility to change the Instrument (transposing instruments) of a part.

What do I do? - I write some music with e.g. 4 parts. Finaly I want scores for my whole concert band. So I want the first part for flute in c, trumpet und clarinet in bb and alto saxophon in eb. It was great to design the song in concert pitch and then create "linked parts" for the transposing instruments.

copy the individual voices as often as you need, replace the instrument in the staff/part properties and you're done - or am I missing something?

First there is still an issue: There is an old bug also in MS3, that changing the instrument or only the tranposition of the current instrument in the Part may cause wrong tones.

But my request was to create dependend parts with different transpositions for one voice. The use case is to compose music with 4 voices in conert tune. Being ready, I want to create e.g. a 1st voice part for clarinet, alto sax, and flute without copying the notes. So later changes in the main score would affect all three (linked) parts.

So you basically want to have changes in notation synchronized across multiple instruments (of various tunings)? I would rather call that "connected" or "grouped" staves, "linked" really means that everything is inherited.

OTOH marking a complete staff (Ctrl+Shift+End), copy (Ctrl+c) and paste to another instrument (Ctrl+v) isn't that much work either; after all you only need to edit your 4 "main" instruments...
