Support for M4 scores not to be zipped.
Having all the files in a zip archive is a nice idea, but it takes a long time to save and doesn't play well with incremental backups (e.g. TimeMachine or Dropbox). I suggest including an option that allows scores to be written as directories without the compression.

Save As, then change from "MuseScore-File (.mscz)" to "Uncompressed MuseScore Folder (experimental) (.)"

Thanks. not quite what I meant.
I was thinking of an option so that the default save is a directory, including the autosave, so that I don't have those long pauses every time I save the file. It really interrupts the flow.

That is the option you asked for in the initial post, but indeed it can't be made the default

Forgetting about the default, have you actually tried Save as to "Uncompressed MuseScore Folder (experimental)?
For me, it simply saves as .mscz - which can then be unzipped.

Yes and it works (if you delete the .mscz)

Ah...
The '.mscz' (file extension) suffix remains in the file name even though 'Save as type' - "Uncompressed MuseScore Folder (experimental)" - is chosen in the Save score dialog.
That suffix must get cleared before the Save button is pressed.
Thanks.

Yup. Seems this feature is experimental for a reason ;-)

I could do that, but it doesn't address the issue I was raising.

True, it cannot be made the default behavior.
