The cutaway staves are actually added to the score as separate instruments.
Those cutaway staves have two important settings (in Staff/Part properties) which must be changed to these values:
- Hide when empty = Always
- Cutaway = enabled/checked/ticked
Unfortunately there is a bug in MS 4.0.2 which means that the "Cutaway" checkbox appears as disabled every time you open Staff Properties even when that checkbox is actually enabled. This is very confusing if you try to validate the values you thought you had set!
The bug has been reported:
https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/15254
To make the final empty measure appear in the cutaway staves, you can insert a staff text and set its font colour to white. That makes the text invisible to a human but renders the measure "not empty" so that it is not suppressed by the Cutaway setting.
