Adding Marks for Intro to Songs and Hymns
Some hymnbooks add marks (right-angled hooks) to their scores to delineate an intro to the piece. This would be an excellent addition to Musescore, but since it doesn't yet exist here is a workaround I use.
Create Intro Marks in Musescore 4
- Click on the musical note where you want to place the Start or End Marks.
- Click on Palettes, then Lines, then Pedal (Straight Hooks).
- Click on the inserted item.
- Click on Properties.
- For Start Mark: Click on Line Type, no hook line; then Click on Start Hook, straight hook line.
- For End Mark: Click on Line Type, straight hook line; then Click on Start Hook, no hook line.
- Increase Thickness to .15.
- Increase Hook Height to 1.5.
- To move the item to above the staff, Click on Appearance, then decrease the Vertical Offset to -5 or greater and then increase it to -2.5.
- To adjust the length of the mark, Click on the right or left selection box on the item, then use the left or right direction key on the keyboard or use the mouse/mousepad to make the adjustment.
- Change the horizontal offset to your preference.
