volume sliders gone

As far as I can tell MS4 has added lovely icing, but for me the cake is missing.
I used to be able to quite literally see my instruments on F10 and adjust volume/mute accordingly. Now I'm stuck trying to hear the soprano line in the next county while the piano bangs away. In the synthesizer if I set the piano at -15 and the sop at the highest level 12, I still cannot hear her--although the piano is softer.
At this point I've only gotten to page two. It's worth it to just go back to MS3 unless there's a quick fix for what seems to be a very boring simple problem.
