multi measure rests

I would like to use mini/compact multi measure rests that do not span the full length of a measure. I have tried going in and changing settings to to make the graphic bars skinnier (side/side) but unless they are within a measure not starting or ending a staff line they revert to a left default status meaning the left side of the multi measure rest stays in its normal location and only the right end of the rest moves away from the barline. I prefer my bar rests to take up about 20% of the measure so that if I need to make edits/additions I can do so using the free space around the rest symbol. This is quite popular in commercial/studio music.

Also, a picture of what you are trying to achieve would probably be useful.

OK, I see, this seems to be a bug in the handling of the "H-bar margin within barlines" style setting, where the margin is calculated incorrectly if the measures starts a system.
Please report this to the developers by opening an issue on GitHub - https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues. ZIP your score and attach it there, and describe the issue in those terms - you increased the value of that style setting, and it works everywhere except at the start of a system.
