Time signature

Time signature is cut or 2/2. How to enter 12/8 notes in groups of three (3) like in moonlight sonata 1st movement. Musescore allows total of eight (8) 1/8 notes entry? Or as the case is, the first measure can take twelve total note of 1/8 but in groups of 4 and 8
