Musescore does play. It will play back notation that has been entered to create a score. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/sound-and-playback.
Musescore has limited facilities for inputting notation from a midi device which one might call "recording". See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/alternative-note-input-methods#real….
Or do you mean that you are having difficulty getting play back or midi input to work. If so, please start new threads and describe the problems in more detail.
