Stuttery Playback

Good morning,
For several weeks now, on every score I've worked on, I've noted that playback is very stuttery. It will often start ok, but by the time you get a few bars in, every note is repeated 1-2 times before the full length is played - almost like there are multiple grace notes before each note. This gives a VERY "messy" playback, during which nothing can be heard clearly, and it barely even sounds like music. Certainly does not allow one to listen for mistakes or clashes. It doesn't matter whether I start playback at the beginning of the work, or part way through.

Previously I've had no issues. I'm not aware that it's specifically associated with any particular Windows update, and it does not happen with any other program, including MuseScore 3, which I still have on my laptop.

It also makes no difference whether the laptop has been freshly started from a complete shutdown or restarted, or has been running all day, or whether there are any other programs open or not.

Can anyone please suggest a fix for this?
