Convert Musescore MIDI file to Yamaha Smart Pianist Format

• Jan 14, 2024 - 23:33

Hi there,

This is my first post in this group! I recently purchased the Musescore subscription primarily to download & print sheet music and MIDI files. I'm in the process of learning piano and I purchased a Yamaha PS500 with the follow the light feature. I downloaded the MIDI file for "Don't Stop Believing" and the follow the lights feature seems to work perfectly with the Smart Pianist App and my PS500. The only problem is the score shows all notes on one staff and does not have the split of left and right hand (treble and bass clef). I've searched around and seen where one guy actually changed the backend code of the MIDI file which is way too advanced for me. I've also seen where people have said to add another piano to the score in Musescore and do something like assign a separate channel to each hand. I'm not sure what this means. When I add another piano to the "Don't Stop Believing" score it just adds a blank treble and bass clef grand staff below. I can't seem to find a way to assign the treble clef to Piano 1 and bass clef to Piano 2 and then create a channel for Piano 1 (right hand) Piano 2 (left hand). Does anyone have experience figuring this out. I couldn't really find a video or anything. I did find one post that said I may need a MIDI editor. I guess it's not the end of the world if I can't figure it out but it sure would be nice to download MIDI files from Musescore and have them work well. Thanks in advance for any help!

Best,
Breid

I notice that the Yamaha clavinova will create a midi from an mp3 that will work with the lights.

Anyway, there are different kinds of midi. Sibelius will export GM both 0 and 1. It will also export Yamaha GX midi. I wouldn't pretend what much of that means. Because I seem to have a warped sense of fun, here is a folder of four different midi formats of a fugue for piano. Unzip it and see if any of them work. I doubt it, but you never know.
