OMR Scanning PDF to MIDI or MusicXML?
I have to prepare some rehearsal tracks for SATB choir.
There was a good discussion about five years ago on this:
https://musescore.org/en/node/272829
Has there been any update? There seems to have been recent improvements with ML applied to OMR.
I tried MuseScore with the PDF of the Kyrie from the Standford Mass in G.
https://imslp.org/wiki/Mass_in_G_major,Op.46(Stanford,_Charles_Villiers)
It gave a few blank pages then some scattered notes. Not usable at all.
Others I have seen mentioned are:
Neuratron photoscore
PlayScore 2
Audiveris (OSS)
Musitek smartscore-pro
Scan-score
Capella-scan
I don't mind paying as long as I get a free trial so I can run the Stanford on it, and it does enough pages so I know one isn't a fluke.

This pdf import system in musescore.com is Audiveris.

But it isn't the complete Audiveris. The complete program is pretty good, but the UI can be a....challenge. I have PhotoScore Lite. It's pretty good. But the light version only does 12 staves.

Thank you. I found that ScanScore was better but in fact the original PDF was too weak to be good. I might do some more comparative testing when I have time.

You can process the PDF to make it better. Can we have a page of the PDF?

It's the IMSLP file, in my question.

Are we looking at the same thing? Here's a picture of the first page of the PDF, the Kyrie with text.

Sorry, I see the "no text" message in the page now. It's the Novello 1893 score. Maybe my link was wrong, I'll check, How do I delete my previous reply?

I see it now, my link was incomplete, broken at the comma

Sorry!

Still broken. Let's try the %2C encoding:

This is a terrible scan of a, no doubt, worse original. I made a PDF of your image and ran it through PhotoScore. I had to do major changes to almost every measure. I left some notes out for speed sake, and produced the result attached.
I'm not sure any software can save this. If I get a chance, I'll try to run it through Audiveris.

That's much better than I got. Here is the first page of the Kyrie using MS Print to PDF.

Unfortunately, I don't think this is going to work. You could have entered this by hand by now. It really needs to be almost perfect to work right. The only reason the one PhotoScore produced was because it is possible to correct things before committing to xml. It took quite a bit of time to do that. Not really worth it.

For future readers: I just discovered this detailed review of four scanning apps, with test files attached.

No clear winner, it depends on your need and budget.
