Adding individual instruments to personalize Musescore possible?

Hi everybody,
I was just wondering if there is a possibility to permanently add individual instruments?

I use musescore for editing recorder-ensembles, i.e. I have Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass recorders to edit. It would help me a lot if there was a way to permanently fix the range/clef to a soprano/alto/tenor/bass-recorder...
Is there a way to "define" individual Instruments, based on the general group, in a way that they "stay" on my personal list of instruments?

If anybody knows how to, I would be overjoyed to learn!

You can save one of your SATB scores as a template...
Take, for instance, a score like this (or one of your own):

and save it to your templates folder -- its location can be found (or even re-assigned) using menu item: Edit → Preferences → Folders

You can save as 'Recorder Quartet', for example, to your templates folder. Then, when you create a new score (choosing 'Create from template'),'you will see 'Recorder Quartet' listed in 'My templates':

Thank you! This is such an easy fix! I almost feel idiot for not finding it on my own...
I think I was so eager to find a way to add instruments (= the complicated way) that I forgot to think easy...
Case closed (until some creative musescore-geek finds a way to allow adding individual instuments 😉)

There are a lot of recorder variants in 3.6.2:

Only the most popular ones are in the 'common' section, so switch to 'All instruments' to see them all. Then you can add them to the score.

And there is a file "instruments.xml", probably only in the installation folder. I copied this text file to another folder (e.g. to .../MuseScore3/templates) and made some modifications there. So if you want to have the recorders available in the 'Common/Woodwinds' section, edit this (copied) file and add the line <genre>common</genre> at the end of the corresponding instrument ID block:

       <instrument id="soprano-recorder">
            <family>recorders</family>
             .
             . [some other entries ...]
            <genre>common</genre>
       </instrument>

Now you must enter the path to the modified "instruments.xml" file under "Edit -> Preferences -> Score > Instrument list". These instruments will now appear in the general list under woodwind instruments. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this way is also possible in MuS 4 - but you didn't tell us which version you are using.

Of course, the template solution is also fine.

Danke - ich werde dann mal das angesprochene Forum suchen gehen - und mir vor allem den angesprochenen Teil des Programms nochmal genauer ansehen 🙄 (genaues Lesen hilft ja oft weiter ...seufz)
Ich arbeite mit MS3 (weiß genaue Version gerade nicht) und MS4 parallel.
In das Programm mit zusätzlichen Zeilen einzugreifen traue ich mich nicht - soviel Computerwissen, dabei das Programm nicht zu zerschießen hab ich nicht.

Sorry for international users ... I'll continue in German.
Das deutsche Forum ist hier: https://musescore.org/de/forum und direkt darunter auch das englische Forum.
Natürlich sprichst du mehr Leute im internationalen Teil an, das kann ein Vorteil sein. Aber auch im deutschen Abschnitt sind kompetente Leute unterwegs, allen voran Jojo-Schmitz.

Hatte ich richtig geraten, dass du die Blockflöten direkt bei den Holzinstrumenten sehen willst, wenn du bei der Auswahl der Instrumente beim Erstellen einer neuen Partitur die Holzblasinstrumente auswählst?
Wenn du mir sagst, welche Blockflöten unter "Allgemein" sichtbar sein sollen, dann mache ich dir gerne eine neue "Instruments.xml" und zeige dir genau, wie du sie aktivieren kannst. Dabei zerschießt man nichts.

Wenn du allerdings quasi immer die selben Instrumente benötigst, dann ist der Vorschlag mit einer benutzerdefinierten Vorlage der einfachere Weg. Da kannst du auch die Textstile und die Anordnung der Instrumente einmalig festlegen und erhältst immer das selbe Setup für jede neue Partitur.

In MuS 3 und 4 geht das mit den Vorlagen auf jeden Fall; ob die Anpassung der instruments.xml dort auch so geht, kann ich leider nicht nachprüfen. MuS 4 läuft bei mir nicht.

Die genaue Version, die du installiert hast, siehst du übrigens unter "Hilfe -> Über MuseScore".
