Can I delete measures from a part without affecting the score?

• Mar 18, 2024 - 18:57

I have a simple lead sheet. I have a melody written out that is only for the 10 bars so I do not need to see all the rests afterwards. I just want that melody. When I delete the measures on the part, it deletes the measures for the entire score.
Thanks.

A simple "lead sheet" is normally comprised of a melody which usually includes chord symbols, along with any lyrics. It is not an arrangement for multiple instruments.

If you have a score for multiple instruments, and some other instruments are playing after those 10 melody bars, you can hide the empty staves where the melody shows all rests afterwards.
See:

If you are referring to the melody Part (showing no other instruments), then type the letter 'M' to toggle multimeasure rests on/off. This won't delete measures for the entire score, but It will combine "all the rests afterwards" for the Part.

Hi, I got closer with a "cutaway" but it is still not doing what I want. I am not writing a complete lead sheet. And I only want this one melody to be made available to the players. And I do not want to see all the measures after the melody is done. Right now, I have multi measure rest on so I see the entire song laid out after the melody is played. It's not gonna hurt anyone to see that, it would jut look much cleaner if all they saw was that 10 bar phrase. It's got to be something simple that I have overlooked.
Thanks!

You wrote:

So...
If "it would just look much cleaner if all they saw was that 10 bar phrase", then create the score with only that 10 bar phrase.
Thus, as you wrote:
I only want this one melody to be made available to the players. And I do not want to see all the measures after the melody is done.

You are correct. It is simple.

Your issue is that MU wants to have 1 least one staff to display on each part all-over the score.
So on your part "meldy", as there is only 1 instrument, MU cannot hide the end of the staff even though you have "Hide empty staves" activated.

One option would be to add a page break on the "meldy" part at measure 9. And add the "double end" barline". And use only the first page.
Unfortunately this double-end barline will also appear on the parts. You can hide it. But then you would have no barline at all.
