Could you hear notes as you input them? If so, in the upper right part of the tool bar is a play button. Scroll over them and select play. You might need to select Rewind first.

In addition to the above, you should consider “mixer” settings. This sets relative volume levels per instrument.
Instruments have different volume levels so you need to adjust the volume sliders accordingly.
