Editing invisible items
MuseScore 4.3.1. When something has been made invisible in Properties, once one leaves that item one cannot come back and select it to make it visible again in order to edit it (because invisible items are not editable). One must select the measure it is anchored to and make everything in that measure visible, then make what must remain invisible invisible again. I don't know if that is intentional, but I find it frustrating, and don't remember it being that way prior to MuseScore 4.
Take for example a tempo setting. The score may have an approximate tempo indicated in words, but an invisible tempo setting has been added to make it specific and exact. If I want to change that, the process above is needed.

Not working like that on my system. I am using Windows. I can select an invisble element and make it visible again. Any more details you can share about the steps you perform, the view mode being used, the OS, etc.

Perhaps you have unchecked “Show invisible” (in menu View / Show) ?

Windows 11; MuseScore 4.3.1 (also 4.3). See the attached image of an invisible tempo mark. (I have not unchecked "Show invisible" in the menu.) I cannot select this item to edit its properties or its content until I select the entire measure, whose properties have a dash (-) in the Visible box. Change that to a check, making everything in the measure visible, then I can work with the Tempo item, edit it, and make it invisible again.
If the measure had other invisible elements in it as well, the same would be true of all of them, and I would have to make each of them individually invisible again after doing this.

I just tested this in MuseScore 3 and it works fine there. I can select and edit invisible items even while they are invisible. For example, I can change an invisible tempo to another value even without making it visible to do so.

Frankly, I don't see the problem. Check out the GIF below. I've hidden the tempo marking, and it's still perfectly selectable and editable, as it should be (with 4.3.1). Instead of an image, attach the measure or a few measures from your .mscz file showing the problem. Maybe there'll be a clue.

There's something weird going on here. If I just try to click on it (left--nothing happens; right--pops up context menu) it doesn't work, as I described. But if I just drag the score slightly first and THEN click on it, it behaves as in your GIF.
I've attached the full score from which the earlier image was clipped.

Sorry, always no problem. I open your score. No need to drag it or something else, I can select the tempo marking immediatly as expected.

It doesn't work like that for me. So I remain puzzled why it does for you. If there were a problem with my settings (which are practically all at default) you should see it too.

OK, I think I found it. It behaves as I describe with the Navigator on and as you describe with it off. Try it.

That's right. The Navigator has been buggy since the first version 4.0.0, and this is one of the aside effects. Among others, for example: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/15591

I appreciate the confirmation. If this issue has not been previously reported, perhaps it should be, maybe added to a list of other known issues with the Navigator.
This seems to be a continuing Silicon Apple issue. The work around is to click on the page somewhere and drag the page in the window. Then select the invisible attribute. You can then edit it, or make it visible again to make other changes. You can do this only once, however. The moment you click on anything else in the window you will again have to nudge the window a bit to click on anything invisible.
This also applies to the new sound flag attributes. I couldn't figure out how to use them until I happened to nudge the window before selecting one. The default invisibility of the sound flags renders them unclickable, just like all other invisible attributes. Until this is fixed.... nudge the window before clicking.
