MuseScore 4 recreates deleted folder based on outdated path in MuseScore4.ini
Description:
MuseScore 4 automatically recreates a folder that no longer exists, based on a leftover reference in the MuseScore4.ini file, even if the user has renamed or deleted the folder manually.
Steps to reproduce:
Open a score located in a specific folder, e.g. ...\Documents\MuseScore4\My Music
Close MuseScore
Rename or delete the folder outside MuseScore (e.g. via File Explorer)
Start MuseScore again
→ The previously deleted or renamed folder is automatically recreated, even though no scores are stored in it anymore
Expected behavior: MuseScore should not recreate folders based on outdated or broken paths in MuseScore4.ini. At the very least, a warning or silent fallback should be used when a referenced folder no longer exists.
Notes:
This issue was confirmed to originate from a single outdated path in the MuseScore4.ini file (e.g. under recentFileX or lastScorePath)
Deleting or correcting the path in the .ini file resolves the issue permanently
OS: Windows 11 Home (may apply to other systems as well)
Recommendation: MuseScore could check whether the referenced path is valid before attempting to recreate the folder. Alternatively, broken references could be silently ignored or cleaned up during startup.
Attached is a screenshot of the .ini lines, with 2 instances of the new and correct folder name, and the old one which kept being incorrectly created ('Muziek voor gitaar').

Change the corresponding setting in MuseScore prior to deleting that folder
