Soundfont does not change its pitch on playback

• Aug 20, 2024 - 06:30

I have created a soundfont which I cannot attach but I shared the link below. When I use it in Musescore, however, changing the note does not change the playback pitch: it keeps playing the middle C however I change the note (pitch, duration, etc). I am not sure if it's because my audio sample is too short in duration, but when played on Polyphone, the pitch can change when played on the virtual keyboard.

How short are your samples?
Can you post a full screenshot of Polyphone showing:
1) A sample
2) An instrument
3) A preset

I don't have access to Polyphone at the moment so I can't inspect your soundfont. Your preset names are a bit unusual, (1 or 2 letters each), but I guess that they mean something to you. Here you can see my more descriptive preset names listed after your shorter names:

• Your samples are definitely long enough.
• Did you set the root note for each sample? Seen as 60 (C) in the sample above.
• Your instrument and preset parameters are very different to anything I have seen before. They just look too 'neat' with all those 0.001 values. Usually there is something in the volume hold, decay, sustain, release fields.
• You could check a working soundfont for comparison such as the free ones on SoundFonts4U. Just note the files size before using because some of them are large, 100+ MB.

(Sorry that I can't be more specific but my PC is dead so no Polyphone)
