Custom palettes not saving

• Aug 27, 2024 - 21:45

I create a custom palette, with one or two entries.

I choose Save Palette…

Where do I save it? Following the path in Preferences > Folders leads me to a folder MuseScore4, with subfolders for Cloud Scores, Plugins, Scores, SoundFonts, Styles, and Templates. And how does saving the palette link it to that particular MSS doc?

If I just quit the session, the palette is gone.

I'm trying to set up a template containing several custom palettes that I can share with other users. It's currently in its own Workspace. I've also looked for a way to save that workspace, so that, if necessary (which would be a bad choice by MSS) I can send that along with the template.

I'm trying to make this as seamless as possible, for the many members of the Barbershop Harmony Society/Sweet Adelines Intl. who have been abandoned by the sunset of Finale.

TIA

You can save it wherever you like. Just browse to your preferred location in the save dialogue that pops up after you choose Save palette. If you send the palette to another user they can save it wherever they prefer and after right clicking on an existing palette they can load the palette from wherever they have saved it.

You can share a complete workspace.
Workspaces (included the palettes) are automatically saved under %LOCALAPPDATA%\MuseScore\MuseScore4\workspaces
Default = Default.mws (mws = musescore work space...probably)
You can copy your yourworkspace.mws directory to another system.
if you are using Linux, that is ~/.local/share/MuseScore/MuseScore4/workspaces

Where would workspaces go for a Mac? Not too many Linux users in my groups.

So this all means that I would have to include my custom palettes along with the template, or the workspace which contains the palettes, and people would have to install them on their own, in order to use the template?

Not particularly user friendly, for folk who don’t understand computers that well. And it’s a shame, because MSS is really a powerful app that I would like to be able to share. Sigh.

The User Interface is completely separated from the score.
Palettes are UI, a template is a score.
Is iS really simple to import a palette mpal file. A couple of steps.
I don't know about Macs.
Anyway, if importing a mpal file is too difficult, the workspace copy in a hidden directory will be more difficult for most probably.

(Edit). If you were to use Dorico, the procedure would be similar. For custom 'palettes', you would need to import a .doricolib file.
