Adjust individual dynamic markings
Hi,
There are a lot things I'd like to do with dynamics, but can't. Here are a few of them.
- There is no way to create, say, a forte mezzo-piano (fmp). Same thing as a fortepiano but it goes to mezzo-piano instead of piano. I've seen these in sheet music before.
- I'd like to adjust the volume of individual dynamic. For example, make a specific forte symbol quieter than usual. It's not entirely realistic to have forte the same volume level across different musical styles, and when quick dynamic changes are present sometimes MuseScore's current dynamics don't emphasize the changes as much as a performer would.
- All text typed within dynamic markings doesn't look the same as the original text. I would understand if letters that don't normally appear in dynamic markings looked different, but when I type an 'f' in a dynamic marking, it doesn't look like the 'f' that normally appears in a forte. Bolding the text makes it closer, but still not the same.
If these options could be added that would be amazing!

Hi Alijah,
For forte mezzo-piano (fmp), you can just assign the forte (f) to the note you want and the mezzo-piano (mp) to the next, or just after the forte.
To adjust the volume of an individual dynamic, you can simply assign one dynamic (e.g., ff) that is visible but does not play (go into Inspector -> Properties -> General -> unselect 'Play'), and another (e.g., f) that is invisible (select note and press 'v' on keyboard) and does play, to the same note. This will mean that the first (ff) is what shows up on the score, and the second (f) is what actually plays. Additionally, if you want to just change the loudness of a small section, you can select what you want to be changed and then adjust the notes' velocity (Inspector -> Properties -> General -> Playback -> Velocity) (this will not be notated).
The issue you're having with the dynamic text looking different from the original dynamic marking is because expansions on dynamics are usually written with 'expression' font (e.g., molto piano). If you could share what you are trying to write in the dynamic font that would help.
I've attached a file with examples of these.
