combining rest measures
I am writing a flute part for an arrangement where I would like to combine rest measures. I have 3 areas that I want to do this. One is 35 measures; another 34; and another 15. How can I do this quickly and easily?

Enter the blank measures. Once you have otherwise completed the work, activate the multi-measure rest. The shortcut depends on which version of MuS you have. It's M for versions before 4.4 and Ctrl+M for 4.4 and up. (Or is it Ctrl+Shift+M?)
As noted, the shortcut when you need to do this manually is Ctrl+Shift+M. But, you should almost never need to do this manually. Multimeasure rests are created automatically when you generate the parts from your arrangement.

I had gotten the impression that OP is writing only the flute part.

Could be; that's unclear. But even so, assuming someone else already wrote the rest of the arrangement and it's in MuseScore format or could be imported into MuseScore, it's still going to be the case that one would normally write the flute part directly into the score and then generate the part.
