Brass growl tone playback

I notate growl notes with a 32nd tremolo, and I'm having trouble getting it to be actually heard. When it's on a long enough note, the growl is audible and has the exact effect I want. However, if it's on anything shorter than a half note, it just gets slightly quieter and that's it. Is this and issue on my end with the inputs, a problem with the non-default instrument sound (free Muse Brass), or something else?
