Staccatissimo sounds like legato
Open the attached score created with MuseScore 1e68b44 on Xubuntu 14.10.
During playback, staccatissimos sound like normal notes (legato or about legato). For comparison, the score also has a measure containing notes with staccatos, and you can clearly hear these notes played separated.

Staccatissimo is not defined in instruments.xml. We could define it similar to staccato.
See PR #1396
Is a gateTime of 25 OK? This is half the value of a Staccato
I think so.
For some reason it fails in the Guitar Pro tests, no idea why and where...
Be sure to check this with a variety of different instruments. Some like violins have a pretty attack, and a note that short may end up being practically inaudible.
Btw, if it's that easy to also add "marcato", maybe we could do that do? It's basically a combination of staccato and sforzando, although might say it is more accented than sforzato but not as short as staccato.
So velocity 120 and gateTime 75 for marcato? Hmm, wikipedia indicates 2/3, so more like 67?
Then staccatissimo to 33, maybe?
And while at it add portato too, same gate time as marcato, same velocity as legato?
And if need be I think we can override this for certain instruments, like it is done for flute?
I think every source you consult will probably give a different definition for these terms, and every player you talk to will have their own ideas too. So I'm not one to be piky about specifics. What you suggest sounds fine for portato (not that I'd ever heard that term before).
Hmm, maybe also make the downbow a synonym for sforzato, except it's not actually that simple, so maybe not...
Have just read about portato in wikipedia :-)
Amended the PR accordingly, will have a look at the failing Guitar Pro tests tomorrow.
What a valuable thread! Thank you.
Finally Travis is happy with it...
