Fingering for Tablature

• Nov 7, 2024 - 19:21

Is it possible to add fingering to tablature in Musescore 3 or 4? It seems not to be. If so this is very odd. I often make my novice students tabs without score, and even with the tab and score, having a tiny number above the score, miles above the tab, is not useful to me. I'm getting around it using control+K but it would be nicer if it worked. Any thoughts or advice welcome.

Possible, of course.
Right-click on the TAB staff / Staff/part properties / Advanced style properties / "Fret marks" tab / Check "Show fingering in tablature".

Ah, maybe it's the fact that I had first replied for the “Show rests” feature, and realizing my mistake, I edited 1 or 2 minutes later the message concerning the “Show Fingering”? (It's the same path in the Staff/Part Properties)
Is this what you've misunderstood and what you're calling : "and then reference a two stage dive into menus"?
In that case, it's completely unintentional on my part, of course, just an edit of a message of which you've seen both versions.

There is a Fingering palette in MS3 so it may well also be in MS4:

But I have started using small, light brown text indications next to the TAB fret numbers:

pima texts work fine for plucking hand.

Of course, but the option must be checked in the Advanced Style Properties, otherwise they don't appear. This is the prerequisite. And I find it hard to believe that the OP (active for over four years) doesn't already know there's a Fingering palette

I was adding to your clear and precise instructions just in case the OP hadn't found the palette. I hope it's not seen as condescending because it's not intended that way. I didn't read anything condescending in your answer so I guess that the OP somehow mis-understood.

I assumed that the OP was a new user. How do you know otherwise?
