Tempo settings

• Jan 18, 2025 - 14:43

Chromebook/linux and Windows 11 2 different systems MU4.2 and MU4.3

Has anyone else noticed when setting a tempo speed (bpm) at the beginning of a movement, then changing that bpm later in the work and then whenever returning to the original bpm setting, that the tempo playback speed is not the same as in the beginning. I have needed speeds of 10 bpm or more to approximate the original setting.

As I have said this has occurred on two different systems each with a different operating system and the only common factor is MU4. Just wondering if others have noticed or if this is another strange quirk with me and MU. The two different OS's and 2 different computers makes me think it is a problem with MU4.x. Have not tried in 4.4, yet.

Thanks for any confirmation or thoughts!

Is that implying it is different in MU4.4 ?

It just kept happening in multiple versions of 4.x. Thought I would ask if it was occurring with anyone else. It will still be a bit of time before I get to the latest version. I have not really worked but a very little in 4.3.

No. Indeed, I have explicitly noticed it not doing so. I had occasion to test tempos a couple of months ago.

How are you setting the tempo originally? How are you changing it? How are you "returning to the original" tempo? (Be very specific and provide WAAAAY more detail than you think necessary.)

Thanks! I will try my best to remember. I do things very simply. I do enter everything with mouse imput, if you think that matters.

I set(usually) the original tempo when setting up the score. Use tempo from setup wizard. To change I will chose a new tempo marking then add some approximate tempo: bpm. To return I set tempo marking from beginning and most times I have to go back to beginning and see what bpm I used at that time.

I will add that I almost never leave the tempo bpm visible. It is only for me to hear. Hope this helps.
Thanks again for confirmation!!

Something else I remembered later. Not sure it will mean much, but just a little extra info. I was entering a shorter work, yesterday. It had several tempo changes back and forth. As I remember everything played as I expected. No slower tempos. The only thing that was different this time was each change was only 3 or 4 measures before the next change.
The only thing of saying anything definitive about this was I had entered another shorter work, from the same set, earlier in the week and I know I experienced the slow down on the return. I do think this work was several measures longer before the return of original tempo. I will check this week if you are really interested in knowing. And I can find which of the set I was entering.

If you are interested I hope this helps.
