Merge several MuseScore 4 files into one book to export into a single pdf file with 401 separate scores.

I am told I can do this by opening file-->Album etc. There is no Album option under my file menu (Mac user).

Don't even think about merging musescore files into one.
It's much easier to do with PDF

Any decent PDF printer driver can merge multiple PDFs into a single PDF. I use PDF Factory.
I use PDFSaM for this, it is free, fast and efficient. Adobe Pro is pretty much the opposite...
There is also a website with many PDF tools: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/

In Mu3 and up to Mu4.3 the answer is very easy: use Batch Export
The fact that many Plugins no longer work in Mu4.4 is indeed a quality issue (and one the developers had been pointed at well before 4.4 got released)
The Album feature existed in Mu2, got removed for Mu3.0 and promised to get re-implemented. But regardless of a GSoC project for Mu4 that never happened.
That's what made (and still makes) me suspicious about the many Mu3 features that got removed from Mu4, quite a few of which still, more than 2 years later, haven't been added back.
Which is why I'm still using 3.6.2 or my 3.7 Evolution for all my work.
