Issue with Update 4.4.4.24361245: too many beats per measures

• Jan 23, 2025 - 17:13

Hey I just uninstalled Musescore and reinstalled it yesterday so I could have the latest updated version. However, I'm having a lot of trouble with my bars... staying in 4/4 time?! I wanted to let the MuseScore staff know right away in case this is something that can be improved or fixed!

Right now I'm making a chart that has only two lines of music, bass notation and bass tabs. I'll start inputting notes quickly, but then I'll come across a bar where it lets me put way more notes than I should be able to and get all messed up. I then have to manually go in a adjust the time signature from something wild like 26/8 or 14/8 or 16/8?

I am constantly having to stop It's interrupting the workflow SO MUCH. Please please please fix this bug on the next update I would appreciate that so much. I am going to uninstall and reinstall an older version so this can stop happening for me right now. It's just unfortunate because I paid for the subscription and love the program, but will be unable to download and adjust scores made with the latest update until I can use it myself too.

I am running Musescore on a 2020 iMac with macOS Ventura 13.2.1.

They won't fix it unless you write in detail how you do it.
" I'll start inputting notes quickly"
Can you describe this in more detail?

True! That makes sense.
I input almost every note with my computer keyboard. I use the numbers at the top of the keyboard to select the rhythms I want, and then I type the letters of the notes I'd like to see. Whenever I need flats or sharps, I use my arrow keys to move notes up or down a semitone on the staff. I usually use key signatures, but for his chart, did not. The only time I used the mouse was for copying and pasting.

The song I was charting out was "Smells Like Teen Spirit". There is a lot of repetition in this song so I did a lot of copy/paste.

My errors always happened when I was pasting and/or hitting the R button. I'd think I was pasting 4 beats into a bar of 4/4, but then be surprised when all these leftover rests appeared at the end of the bar.

To copy and paste my process is: click on the bar I want to copy with my mouse and hit command C.
If I want two bars, I click on the first bar I want, and then hold shift and click on the second bar I want.
I then go to where I'd like the paste to happen in my score and hit command V.

Sometimes where I want notes to repeat is in the very next bar. In this case, I click on the bar I want to copy with my mouse and hit R on my keyboard to replicate it/repeat the same notes.

I will attach my finished scores. There are no errors in them anymore because I manually changed all the problematic bars as they happened. If it's helpful here they are.

Thanks for reading my post and the tip about being more specific. Appreciate it.
