how to control the beaming of notes in 6/8time
I cannot create triplets in 6/8 time when there is a quaver preceding a triplet as the system just
merges the notes of the triplet into the previous note sequence.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do. 6/8 "triplets" are generally groups of three 8th notes and actual triplets (with a '3') are uncommon. Can you post your score (the MSCZ file) part of it that contauns the but you can;t get right and can you post a picture or clear description of how you want it to appear?
