Change color of selected notes.

Total newbie here. When I select for editing, one or more notes from a composition, it defaults to a color blue that simply doesn't show on my screen/lighting. I know you can select notes and then change their appearance - but can you change the default setting for all selected notes?

I've poured through style and preferences, and cannot find anything.
