Pick ups

I don't understand how 'make an anacrusis' works. What is 1 out of 4 mean?
The handbook states that a measure can be converted into a pick up the following way:
1. Right click on the measure and choose 'Measure properties'
2. In 'Measure duration' section, next to 'Actual' choose an underlying time signature
3. Click on 'OK' or click 'Apply' etc
However, when I right click on a measure there is no 'Measure properties'.
There is 'Stave/Part properties' but this has no 'Measure duration' and no 'Apply'
The piece starts with a pick up and has a repeat, then the next section starts with a pic up and has a repeat.
The rests which are automatically put in the pick ups and end measures cannot be deleted.
Have spent an hour of my life on this and no further forward.
Can anyone help? TIA

Ah, ok. Thanks very much.
When I right click it doesn't say 'Measure properties' but the content of the box opened shows what yours shows.
I still don't understand what the numbers mean but I can play around and see what happens.
Thanks for your help.

Er...yes. That's what it says to do. Either you didn't read the rest of what I wrote or I didn't make myself clear.
What I see when I right click on an empty part of the measure is a small menu.
None of the 3 items in the menu give me anything which enables me to make a pick up.
That is what I need help with.
Which one of the three - 'style' 'page settings' 'load style' do I need? Because when I click on each of them, I can't see anything in any of them which enables me to make a pick up.

You need to right click on an empty spot within the staff lines (avoiding any notes/rests).
For example, in piano music there is a treble clef staff and a bass clef staff. The area between those 2 staves, although crossed by barlines and separated into measures, is not considered an empty part of a measure for this purpose.

Depending on your language, "bar" instead of "measure".
