Musescore pedals playback problem

• Mar 29, 2025 - 23:48

In my piano sonatas and solo piano nocturnes, every time I put the pedals sign on a measure it does NOT play back ever since 4.4. The updates have no benefit on me and I would start skipping versions because the thing they claim they "fixed" is never fixed.

It works for some parts of the score but in other parts of the score it does not play. This is the reason why I can't write any solo piano music these days!

Anyone having this problem please reply, or else I'm just wasting time complaining about this problem when I could have written a new symphony!!!

This is the third movement of my experimental four-movement piano sonata but some places (such as past the coda mark) the pedal markings in every measure are hidden (but set to "play") but don't actually work. I do that so the score doesn't look cluttered and the playback for the pedal markings still work. For this I'm using the Muse Sounds soundfont. I have a MP3 version of it with the glitched playback but it's 6mb and it's not letting me upload on here. There's problems with the first and second movements too so I purposely removed the pedal markings since they're useless there.

Here are some observations on playback of this score.
Measures 33-47. right hand staccatos do not play. They mostly play in the coda section at the end. That may be part of why it seems like the pedal marks don't work. I wanted to hear how much difference the pedal made. I added four measures after 101. Range select 98-101 and hit "R". then delete the right hand notes in the now 8 test measures. Renter the pedal marks in the first four. Play the 8 measures. To my ear there is some difference between the two sets. but not as much as I would have thought.
As near as I can tell, the question would more like, "Why aren't the staccatos playing in the earlier measures?" instead of about the pedal marks at the end.

The staccatos didn't work either so I removed them.

However the pedal markings in the coda still don't work, with/without staccatos. I instead used voice 2 to add a hidden half note (that is hidden but plays) in each measure so it "sustains" the measure.

I tried to remove the articulation in the coda but its still not playing. But then I wonder if the pedal markings are even necessary lol

The movement is still in progress, I plan to embellish some parts since right now I believe it's pretty "flat".

Right now I look at my "finished" movements (1st and 2nd movements) that aren't actually finished since here seemed to be some real pedal marking issues and its affecting the playback.

1st mvt:
Measures 416 to the coda and the end are not playing the pedal markings. There was an entire section after measure 319 (between 319 and 320) that I removed from the score because the pedal marking is NOT playing. The only reason I can make it "play" with/without the pedals (that don't even work lol) is by making the notes cover the entire measure.

2nd mvt:
There's nothing too much that's wrong in the scherzo as far as I can tell, SOME parts may not play but most are fine. Most sections in the trio and coda (like way too many to list here) have pedal markings that won't play. My ears are pretty good so I can instantly tell if its not playing, but the frequency of the notes seem to cover that. I didn't delete or crop any sections.

This is happening in my other scores as well but there's too many to upload on here.
