Moving Muse Sounds ?

• Apr 2, 2025 - 02:01

I copied the entire folder "Muse Hub Instruments" to a new drive, and updated download location in Musehub to point to that drive. But when I open a score, Musesounds are no longer available.

What else do I have to change to move the sounds to a new drive?

There are quite a few testimonials (on a post I haven't found yet, alas - I'll keep trying) that go in the same direction as yours.
From memory, it's really recommended to keep the default location, say the "C" (or other) disk.
Or, to try, and this is the basic idea: that MuseScore Studio be installed on the same disk. So, both on a "C" disk (let's say), or both on a "D" disk, but not one on "C" and the other on "D", or vice versa : )
Let us know what you think.
I'm not sure it makes a difference, though, what OS are you running?

Windows. I got it to work. I changed the download location in Musehub and simply downloaded all the free libraires to the new location (a different disk) and deleted them from the old location. I also added that directory to the Soundfonts path in preferences (just in case that matters). I have done extensive testing, but at least Muse Sounds was found in the mixer panel again.

This kind of thing should be basic in the app (i.e. being able to located your sounds in a custom directory)

Thanks for the feedback. Could you tell us more about your approach (it could be useful to others)
1."I changed the download location in Musehub ". What did you change exactly, from which location to which location?
2. "and simply downloaded all the free libraires to the new location (a different disk)"
A different disk: internal or external?
3. And where is MuseScore Studio located?

Here's a step by step:

In Musehub (latest version x64):

  1. I went to the Free Sounds page and clicked Uninstall for each library.
  2. I checked the default install location and made sure they were all gone and deleted anything left behind. I left the folder there.
  3. In Settings, I changed the value of Musesounds Installation folder to a custom folder on a different drive. In my case it was an internal "D drive" (SSD). Something like "D:/Sound Libraries/Muse Hub Instruments"
  4. I went back to the Free Sounds page and reinstalled each library.
  5. Quit and restart Musehub (important)

In Musescore Studio (4.5.1)

My install for Studio is the default location.
I didn't change anything, opened a score, and it so far works fine.

I just replicated these steps on another computer (windows 11) with success
