Sure. Layers are what Finale calls the MuseScore voices. So, if you have both voice 1 and voice 2 on a single staff, that allows you to see one or the other by itself. Actually, it should be called Edit Active Layer Only. Very convenient for working with a single voice, and not having the other interfere. Great for selection, copying, etc. And, to my mind, easier than Select Similar, On this staff, and the like.
