unable to start latest build

• Feb 26, 2010 - 20:01

I've just for the first time attempted to test a nightly build, mscoreNightly-r2781. It crashes on startup so am unable to test. I'm running Windows XP Pro, SP3. Any suggestions? I specifically wanted to check to see if an issue (MIDI input) had been resolved as reported.

I've now gone through all nightly builds available in reverse order. Five crashed on start up. The sixth opens find and has the MIDI input issue that I'd been concerned about fixed.

Something seems to have happened between that build and subsequent ones. I'm going through exactly the same process of unzipping with7zip. Here are the build numbers and my experience:

r2781 - crash
r2776 - crash
r2770 - crash
r2764 - crash
r2757 - crash
r2756 - run

Thanks for your work on searching out these bugs!

Revision 2756 was actually that last nightly version I built using Windows XP. For revision 2757 onwards I have been using Windows 7. However the latest nightly builds do not crash on my old Windows XP computer when I download and use them (I just tested today's r.2784 on Windows XP, SP3). So I'm not sure why it crashes on your computer.

If other developers have advice or other users are experiencing the same crash please join the conversation.

If you have time you might try a debug version of MuseScore and paste the debug messages in a comment below.

Just tried latest nightly, r2784, with same crash on startup.

Also just tried debug version. Following all the steps you've outlined (and I am familiar with theDOS command line), when trying to run mscore.exe -d, I get error message:

"This application has failed to start because QtCore4.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I had put mscore.exe in its own folder. I then put it in the Bin folder of r2784, where QtCore4.dll is located for that build. Startup failed, Here's command line log:

C:\>cd C:\Program Files\MuseScore 0.9.6\nightly-2784\mscoreNightly\bin

C:\Program Files\MuseScore 0.9.6\nightly-2784\mscoreNightly\bin>mscore.exe -d
global share:

I then tried same thing for my last working nightly build r2756, and everything fine. Of course that build had the MIDI problem I'd brought up resolved. Since I haven't been able to get any build since to start up, I can't determine if the fix has remained in place.

You say you got r2784 to work in Windows XP, SP3. I wonder what can be going on that it doesn't work for me?

Have tried two more nightly builds, r2795 and latest r2809. Both crashed on startup as have all since r2756.

Again: running Windows XP Pro with SP3.

I've included the crash report file if anyone can make any sense of it.

That's it! I had Jack 1.9.4 installed. Once removed, most recent MuseScore nightly build r2809 runs.

To tell you the truth, in the time I had to fiddle around with it, I couldn't get Jack to do jack anyway. I had forgotten about it and didn't even consider it might have anything to do with the MuseScore startup crashes.

Thanks!
