Moving view deselects what ever is selected
Another question...
how can I select an entire staff across multiple pages (I want to transpose it)? If I select the a bar and hold shift and click another, it selects everything in between. But If i select a bar (or anything else) and try to move the view (eg by clicking and dragging), it deselcts what ever is selected

Try to use scroll or shift scroll to move the scoreview . Or the navigator.
Or click on the first measure, and press Ctrl + Shift + End or Ctrl + Shift + Right several times.
