Musescore 2.0 on other Ubuntu flavors

• Mar 25, 2015 - 01:36

I have Lubuntu 14.04.2 installed, and I was told that Musescore 2.0 would work on various Ubuntu flavors, shuch as Lubuntu. I went to update my version of Musescore, but it didn't change anything. I uninstalled it, and downloaded and installed it. Still 1.3... I even tried resetting my computer. Still downloaded as 1.3...

Is it something wrong with the Ubuntu flavor, or just something that hasn't been covered yet?

It's not the "flavor" that is the problem, but 14.04 itself. That release does't include the version of Qt required by MuseScore. A solution is being investigation: I too am hoping something is figured out, as updating to 14.10 is not a good option for me.

Hello all,

Same thing here. I'm trying to install the proper QT version on Xubuntu 14.04 so as to be able to compile musescore 2.0 from source following these instructions:

http://musescore.org/en/developers-handbook/compilation/compile-instruc…

Altough it's titled as a 14.10 procedure, it says it also works on 14.04. At the time, I managed to install QT 5.4, but i'm stuck with the dependencies. I'll let you know if I get lucky!

Cheers and congrats

A package for Ubuntu 14.04 (any flavour) is now available in the MuseScore stable PPA: https://launchpad.net/~mscore-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mscore-stable

Note that using the MuseScore stable PPA on Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) will also upgrade various Qt5 components, so if anything breaks, please let me know. I have tested the package and PPA on my own 14.04 system, and it seems fine, but I could easily have missed something, since my configuration is likely to be different from that of other people.

Sounds like you probably have bad settings for soundfonts and/or I/O leftover from a previous installation. Run with the "-F" option to revert to factory settings and that will prpobably fix it. if not, start a new thread and show the contents of your Edit / Preferences / I/O and View / Synthesizer windows.

I'm enjoying Musescore 2.0 in Linux Mint 17.1 (Ubuntu 14.04.1 under the bonnet) by simply using WINE.

I've also installed Musescore 2.0 in WINE in Debian Wheezy quickly and with the minimum of fuss.

I found that WINE didn't need any special adjustments to get Musescore 2.0 running and I finished completing the conversion of this piece from 1.3 to 2.0 format in Ubuntu without issues https://musescore.com/user/58480/scores/734451

Above you can see it running on my desktop this morning.
You can see I have shortcuts to both 1.3 and 2.0 in the bottom left corner.
