Creating two notes of different lengths at the same measure point

Is it possible to create one note that then holds through other notes in the same measure? For ex, if one were to play an F and hold it for a full measure, but play a A on the second beat and then a B on the fourth? Currently, I only know how to make the A and B replace the F, but I want to be able to hold the F throughout.
