song in honor of my father and fathers everywhere
Just wrote this for my dad today. He has yet to hear it as of the moment I am typing this. Any comments? (And yes I know it could be longer.)

I felt measure 14 needed a fuller chord after the build-up preceding it. Attached is an alternate version of measure 14 (unfortunately my version goes a little high for horn 1)

I really like what you did with that measure. I think if i had written it that way, I probably would have continued the melody in that upper register. I think I may play around with that and see how it comes out. And also, on the subject of horn range, I spoke to several friends who play french horn, and they said that the C# two ledger lines above the staff is actually not a difficult note to hit, so I'm assuming the D only a half step higher is probably not so difficult either. Thanks for your addition. I'll work around that and see how it comes out.

I just changed around the melody based on the chord you designed there and this is how it came out.

I liked your arrangement, but the playability was a bit off. Usually, the 1&2 parts are printed on the same sheet of paper, and the 3&4 parts likewise so when you score them, the 1st and 3rd usually horns have the high(er) part and 2nd and 4th have the low(er) parts so there are few collisions or crossing lines on the individual sheets of music.
In a couple of places you have some wild leaps (near octave, 10ths, etc) which are certainly not difficult for professional players, but it makes them feel, well, not smooth. To illustrate, i've taken your score and moved some parts around. I didn't change any notes (hopefully), just moved them to different parts. See if you like the difference. What you might do in the future is to solo each part and listen for big jumps, especially up-jumps and reduce or move them around where possible.

it honestly sounds pretty much the same to me, but a little off. i didn't go through and look for exactly what you changed, but it did sound a little different. Part of my intention with keeping the bigger jumps in each part is to help to musician understand whats going on in the larger ensemble better. It's a complicated thought process that makes sense in my head. But yes, in the future I'll look to keep playability in terms of intervals and range in check when scoring.
Was good. Really you can feel the love of one dad ... for me i will change some notes, but really good.
