2.0.1 Need definitive answer - Can I tie two chords and have the chord held on playback?
Version 2.0.1
Need definitive answer please - Can I tie two chords and have the 2 chords held on playback? I tie 2 chords together but playback doesn't hold the chord. It plays the chords as separate chords. I've read the previous posts on this question but not sure of the answer.
Thank you,
Ed S.

Yes, you can My guess is that you are using the slur (from the Lines palette, shortcut "S") rather than the Tie (on note input toolbar, shortcut "+"). Simply enter the two chords, then select the first, then add the tie. Same as in previous releases.
I'm sort of dumb. When the instructions say select the first staff then "Shift +", is that the plus key or should I use the numeric plus key? The instructions say to use "shift +" then "+" key alone which would be the "=" key.
From the manual:
Tied chords
To add ties between two chords, select the stem of the first chord, or Shift + click on the first chord and press +. Note input mode must not be enabled.
I probably don't have certain tool bars enabled.

You're not dumb :-). There are a couple of points of confusion.
The first problem is that there are lots and lots of different keyboard layouts in the world. The actual shortcut is "+" - the regular "+" key, not one on a numeric keypad which many computers don't even have. If on your particular keyboard, it happens to require "Shift" to get to the plus - like on mine, it's found right above "=" - then of course you need to use Shift. But if your keyboard happens to have "+" as a main key, then you wouldn't use Shift.
The instructions don't actually talk about pressing Shift while pressing the "+" key, though. It mentions "Shift+click". Which is to say, shift plus click - pressing Shift while *clicking*, not while pressing the "+" key.
So, to add a tie between chords you have already entered, you need to select the first chord by pressing Shift while clicking that chord. This selects the chord. *Then* you press the "+" - which may or may not rrequire presisng Shift, depending on your keyboard.
Thank you for your kind responses and help. The instructions do not work on my computer. I even uninstalled all versions of Musescore, shutdown, booted up, then reinstalled 2.0.1. I'm sure it is a problem with my hardware.
Thank you,
Ed

Should be as easy as that (click on the stem, click on the button)

I wonder whether this animated gif would work in the handbook too? For sure in the html version, but also in the PDF?

Deleted first file and created new notation file. Your instructions does not work on my version of 2.0.1, for whatever reason. Is it possible to go back to just 2.0>
Thanks,
Ed

Please show the score and tell which chord you can't tie using that method.

It is definitely not a hardware problem. You didn't say at which step something specifically went wrong. Please say *precisely* what you are doing, what you expect to see happen, and what you see instead.
Note that selecting a stem is one way to start, but it also works to select the whole chord. Press Esc to make sure nothing is selected, then Shift+click any note in the chord and a blue rectangle should appear around it. Are you getting that far at least?

The last 8th note chord of the first measure tied to the first 8th note chord of the second.
The second measure: the 8th note chord on "2&" to the quarter note chord on "3".
I created scores with slurs and ties notes in 2.0.

I'm not at my PC right now, so can't check, but maybe you've beenough bitten by the problem to select the stem of a note/chord with flags?
In reply to I'm not at my PC right now, by Jojo-Schmitz
I tried the score and I could select the stem (needed to zoom in a bit) and could tie with either the tie icon or shift +

works for me
on your screen video one sees at the right side, a small part of a window.
When I tie there is no window displayed. What is the window which appears by you ?

Are you talking about the video in https://musescore.org/en/node/61771#comment-284416? that's just the Inspector - should be displayed by default always unless for some reaosn you've closed it. You can restore it by pressing F8 or View / Inspector.
It's working! I zoomed in and found that when I clicked on the top of the stem I was just selecting the 8th note flag(!?). When I selected the stem at the bottom, it worked and the chords were tied together. And playback works properly. That was very strange.
Thank you to all for helping me with this really off the wall problem. I have to add zooming in to my list of troubleshooting steps.
