Adding instruments
I've noticed that Musescore contains a feature that allows you to add instruments in the middle of a score, but I haven't figured out how to do so. How do do this?

Well...that is useful. But I'm talking about adding or removing instruments mid-staff.

Not sure what you mena by "mid-staff", but I suspect maybe you mean mid-score? As in,. an instrument that only enters part way through the score, or that stops playing before the end? If so, then you simply add the instrument normally, add its notes, then when you are done, turn on the Hide Empty Staves option in Style / General.
If that doesn't answer your question, please provide more information - maybe an example form a published score, or even a handwritten drawing, or just a more detailed description.

Okay. So I just figured it out. So the staves will only appear in the systems where they come in. Correct? I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong.

Correct. If a staff has no notes on a given system, then the staff won't be displayed.
