Splendid Piano soundfont examples

• Jun 28, 2010 - 14:37

I've been editing some of my Musescore files so that they sound reasonably good using the "Splendid Piano" sound font (http://www.soundcreationsinc.com/tech/splendid/grand._collection.html). Although the Splendid Piano stereo font sounds better (in my opinion) than the default Musescore soundfont, TimGM6mb, it only has a piano and is a lot larger then the Musescore default. And music files do require some editing to go from TimGM6mb to the Splendid Piano soundfont.

I've put a number of examples on the web so you can hear what the Splendid Piano font sounds like. Here is a link to an index:

I'm curious which kind of edit you made ?

The SP soundfont has a louder lower register, so the lower notes have to be reduced in volume by about 4 or 5 counts. The built-in reverb of SP is more than with TimGM6mb (which has practically none) so some notes will sound a little smeared and have to be cut back in duration. My one complaint about SP is its built-in reverb. It is great for listening via headphones, as it simulates a "room presence." But when played by conventional loudspeakers - that add their own room presence - the sound comes out somewhat distorted.
