Vocal and rest help
It doesn't matter if I choose soprano or bass it's still the same male voice. How do I change that? When I go on the toolbar to select rest it only shows quarter rest. where are the others?

From the mixer?

You can choose the sounds used in the Mixer, but you are limited to whatever the soundfont you are currently using provides, which in turn is normally limited by whatever the General MIDI standard defines. There is no standard for separate male and female voices in General MIDI, so few soundfonts will go out of their way to provide separate sounds. But feel free to explore the net for other soundfonts. Personally, I prefer using instrumental sounds over synthesized voices anyhow.
As for rests, the link shown above contains good info. For the record, you select duration using the duration icons or their keyboard shortcuts - same for rests as for notes. The duration icons have pictures of notes on them, but they are still the icons to use to select the duration when entering rests. After selecting the duration, just type 0 rather than typing the letter name of the note you want to enter. The icon with the picture of the rest is needed only when entering notes via clicking rather than typing, but this is much slower.
